Cipriano
Masculine · “from Cyprus”
Copper is named after Cyprus, not the other way round. Latin called the metal Cyprium aes, Cyprian bronze, because the island's mines supplied the Roman world; the phrase shortened to cuprum, and English took it as copper. Cipriano therefore means, at several removes, of the copper island.

The story of Cipriano
Cyprus was the Mediterranean's principal source of copper for three thousand years, and the Romans named the metal after the island as a matter of trade shorthand. Cyprianus was an ordinary Latin ethnic adjective used as a name, and it became a Christian one through Cyprian of Carthage, the third-century bishop and writer martyred under Valerian, whose letters are a major source for the early church. Spanish, Italian and Portuguese all took the name, and Spanish spells it Cipriano because c before an i is an s sound. It reached United States records with Mexican and Italian families and had its best year in 1930.
Meaning
from Cyprus
Latin Cyprianus, an inhabitant of Cyprus, from Cyprus, whose own name is not securely explained and may be pre-Greek. The metal's name derives from the island: Cyprium aes, Cyprian metal, became cuprum in late Latin and gives copper, cuprous and the chemical symbol Cu. The name therefore predates the metal word rather than deriving from it.

The Robinson test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Cipriano's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Robinson climbed just as high around 1900, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Robinson's path sketches the road Cipriano is walking now.
Cipriano sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
