Chasidy
Feminine · “purity”
Latin castus means cut off, set apart, and from there pure. It gave English chaste and chastity, and it gave caste — a group kept separate from the others. It also gave castigate, which originally meant to make someone pure by correcting them, and which has kept the correcting and dropped the purity.

The story of Chasidy
Castus is a word about separation before it is a word about morals: something castus has been cut off from what would spoil it. Latin used it for ritual purity, for unmixed wine and for restraint. The English descendants split the sense three ways — chaste kept the moral meaning, caste kept the separation and traveled to India by way of Portuguese, and castigate kept the correcting. Chastity as a name belongs to the English virtue tradition, the same one that gave Patience, Prudence and Constance. Chasidy is what happens when a family likes the sound of a virtue name and does not want to hand a child the virtue itself, which is a reasonable thing to want.
Meaning
purity
From Latin castitas, from castus, morally pure or set apart. Chastity is one of the virtue names, and this spelling removes the t, which removes the word from view without changing the sound much. The result is closer to a name and further from a statement.

Pronouncing Chasidy
CHAS-ih-dee
Three syllables, stress on the first, with the ch of church. Chastity has the same rhythm with a t in the middle, and the two are close enough that the respelling is heard as the word anyway.

The Nida test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Chasidy's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Nida climbed just as high around 1905, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Nida's path sketches the road Chasidy is walking now.
Chasidy sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
