The story of Chadrick
Chad of Mercia, who died in 672, was bishop of the Mercians and one of the more attractive figures in Bede: he walked everywhere until the archbishop physically lifted him onto a horse and told him to ride. His name, Ceadda, is probably British rather than English and its meaning is unknown. The lake in central Africa is a different word entirely, from Kanuri, and since it means a large expanse of water the phrase Lake Chad says the same thing twice, in the way that the River Avon does, since afon is Welsh for a river. The American given name is the saint's, extended with a Germanic ending, and the country supplies nothing but a coincidence.

Old English ceadda, of unknown meaning
Chadrick joins Chad, from the Old English name Ceadda borne by a seventh-century Mercian bishop, to the -rick ending from Germanic ric, power. The African country and lake take their name from a Kanuri word for a large body of water, which is unrelated. The peak is 1976.
