Camilia
Feminine · “Latin "attendant at a sacrifice”
A camilla was a job. In Roman religion the camilli and camillae were freeborn children who assisted at sacrifices, carrying the vessels and the implements — so the name that Virgil gave to a warrior maiden started life as a title for a child acolyte.

The story of Camilia
Roman ritual required assistants who were freeborn and had both parents living — children called camilli, chosen for their ritual purity rather than their skill. The word survives in that technical sense in Roman antiquarian writers and in inscriptions, and it is one of a number of Latin religious terms that scholars take to be Etruscan borrowings, alongside persona and histrio. Virgil's Camilla, raised in the woods and dedicated to Diana, made the name literary; it entered English use in the eighteenth century, helped by Fanny Burney's novel Camilla in 1796. The American respelling Camilia peaks in 1990.
Meaning
Latin "attendant at a sacrifice"
From camillus and camilla, terms for the freeborn boys and girls who served at Roman religious rites. The word is probably Etruscan in origin. Virgil gave the name Camilla to a warrior queen of the Volsci in the Aeneid, which is how it entered European use. The camellia flower is a separate word entirely, named after Georg Josef Kamel, a Jesuit botanist who died in 1706; the resemblance is a coincidence.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. The Yona test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Camilia's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Yona climbed just as high around 1924, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Yona's path sketches the road Camilia is walking now.
Camilia sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
