From two Germanic words, one for armor and one for battle to Brunilda
The story of Brunilda
The battle element is worth following. It appears at the front of Hilda and at the back of Matilda, Brunhilda, Clotilde and Romilda, and it meant exactly what it says — a fight. Germanic parents were not wishing violence on their daughters; they were using the vocabulary they had, which was the vocabulary of a warrior aristocracy, and every name in it is assembled from a small stock of words about weapons, animals, glory and gods. When Christianity arrived, the words stayed and the sense drained out of them, which is why a name can mean armored battle and be given to a child in San Juan without anybody thinking about it.
Meaning
armor and battle
Both halves are Germanic words about war. The first is generally read as a breastplate or armor, and the second is the word for a battle — a very productive element that closes Matilda, Clotilde, Griselda and Hilda itself, and that turns up in dozens of medieval women's names. Germanic naming did not distinguish much between what it wished on sons and on daughters: the same words for war, protection and glory were used for both, and the results only sound martial to modern ears.

Brunilda sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
