The Brittany is a lively, orange-and-white pointing dog bred by Breton hunters, and it is one of the most popular bird dogs in America. In the 1880s Paul Gauguin and a group of younger painters gathered in the Breton village of Pont-Aven, where the flat colors and bold outlines they developed there, inspired by Breton costume and folk art, helped open the way to modern painting.
