Our story of Brissa
Ours, offered as ours. Brisa is a sailors' word before it is a poetic one: it named the north-east trade wind in the Caribbean, which was the wind that got ships home, and English took the same word as breeze. The other candidate is grimmer — Briseis is the captive woman whose seizure sets off the quarrel that opens the Iliad. A trade wind and a war prize, and Mexican naming almost certainly meant the wind.

breeze
Spanish brisa names a light wind and probably came into the language from a Caribbean or Frisian nautical source. A separate reading connects the name to Briseis, the woman in the Iliad. Neither is settled for the modern spelling.

The Randa test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Brissa's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Randa climbed just as high around 1953, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Randa's path sketches the road Brissa is walking now.
Brissa sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A concrete meaning that is easy and pleasant to explain.
- Bri is a plain short form shared with very familiar names.
- Every letter is said, so Spanish speakers read it correctly at once.
- Brisa with one s is the standard Spanish spelling of the word.
- English readers will say BRISS-ah, which is wrong on the first vowel.
- The Greek reading behind it belongs to a very unhappy story.
