Our story of Braelon
Ours, offered as ours. A brae in Scots is a hillside — the word is Norse in origin and it survives all over Scottish poetry and place names, in the banks and braes of songs. Braelon almost certainly did not come from it; the name belongs to the Bray- and Brae- family that American naming built in the 1990s out of Brayden and Braden. But the word is real and worth knowing, and it is a better thing to point at than an invented meaning.

Not established
No source is established for the compound. Scots brae, a hillside or slope, is a real word from Old Norse bra and is a genuine near-neighbor. The -lon ending is a modern American element. Neither is documented as the source of this name.

The Lorenso test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Braelon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Lorenso climbed just as high around 1950, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Lorenso's path sketches the road Braelon is walking now.
Braelon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Read correctly on sight by every English speaker.
- Brae and Lon are both usable short forms with their own lives.
- Rare in the records, so it stays distinct on a class list.
- Braylon is the more written spelling and will be used for him.
- The ae is genuinely ambiguous to a reader meeting it cold.
- There is no documented meaning, only a construction.
