The tribe named after Benjamin was almost destroyed. The last chapters of Judges describe a war between Benjamin and the rest of Israel that leaves six hundred men alive and the other tribes sworn not to give them wives, which they then have to work around. It is the grimmest thing in the book.

The story of Benjie
The war and its aftermath explain a fact repeated elsewhere in the Bible without explanation: Benjamin was the smallest of the twelve tribes. It also produced two of the most consequential people in the whole story. Saul, the first king of Israel, was a Benjaminite, from a tribe that had recently been reduced to almost nothing. And Paul, who says so himself in his letters, was another — a man from the smallest tribe who ended up writing a large part of the New Testament. The text does not draw attention to either, and the pattern is only visible if you go back and check.

The Carmon test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Benjie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Carmon climbed just as high around 1915, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Carmon's path sketches the road Benjie is walking now.
Benjie sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
