Audric
Masculine · “wealthy ruler”
Germanic naming was a kit. You took one element from a stock of about sixty and joined it to another, and any legal combination was a name; that is how one culture produced Richard, Roderick, Frederick, Audric, Alberic and Eric from a single second element. Audric is wealth plus power, two of the most-used pieces in the box.

The story of Audric
The Germanic system did not require a compound to make literal sense: the point was to reuse family elements, so a son might take one element from his father and one from his mother, and the resulting name meant whatever the parts meant when read together. Audric is a well-formed example, and it survived into medieval France, where Aldric of Le Mans was a ninth-century bishop and saint. The name has stayed rare and largely French and Occitan since. In United States records it is very uncommon and recent, with its best year in 2003, and most American bearers come from French-speaking or Haitian families rather than from the Germanic tradition directly.
Meaning
wealthy ruler, rich in power
From the Germanic elements aud or od, wealth, riches or fortune, and ric, power, rule or ruler. The second is ultimately the same word as Latin rex and Sanskrit raja. Both elements are extremely common in medieval Germanic naming, and the compound behaves exactly as the system requires; the French Audric and Aldric preserve it.

The Vandell test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Audric's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Vandell climbed just as high around 1946, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Vandell's path sketches the road Audric is walking now.
Audric sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
