The story of Audra
Æthelthryth was a seventh-century queen who left two marriages to found the abbey at Ely, and her cult was large enough that the fair held on her feast day gave English the word 'tawdry' — from the cheap lace sold there as St Audrey's lace. Audrey survived that indignity. Audra appears in American registers from the 1930s and peaked in the mid-1960s.

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Audra's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Arline climbed just as high around 1936, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Arline's path sketches the road Audra is walking now.
