The story of Artemio
Artemios was borne by a fourth-century martyr whose cult spread through the Greek-speaking east, and the name entered Latin as Artemius. Spanish and Italian made Artemio of it, and it has been used in Spain, Italy and across Latin America since. Mexican records in particular show it steadily through the twentieth century, and it reaches American use with Mexican and Filipino families.

Greek Artemios is generally taken as derived from the goddess Artemis, whose name has no settled origin. A competing account builds it on artemes, unharmed or in good health, which is a genuine Greek word. Neither has won.

The Walden test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Artemio's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Walden climbed just as high around 1908, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Walden's path sketches the road Artemio is walking now.
Artemio sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
