The story of Ariannah
Ariadne is a Cretan princess, the daughter of Minos, and the story treats her as the one person who understands the labyrinth. She gives Theseus the thread, he kills the Minotaur, and then he abandons her on Naxos on the way home — which is where the myth becomes something else, because Dionysus finds her there and marries her, and the crown he gives her is thrown into the sky as the constellation Corona Borealis. It is still up there. The name went into Italian as Arianna and into English from there, and the American spellings — Ariana, Arianna, Ariannah — all descend from the Italian rather than directly from the Greek.

most holy
Through Italian Arianna from Greek Ariadne: ari-, an intensifying prefix, with hagne, holy or pure, giving something like utterly holy. A separate Welsh source is sometimes offered — arian, silver — and cannot be ruled out for the English spellings. The Greek reading is the better established.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. The Rashawn test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Ariannah's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Rashawn climbed just as high around 1979, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Rashawn's path sketches the road Ariannah is walking now.
Ariannah sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A documented Greek origin with one of the best-known stories in European literature attached.
- Three short forms, all of which stand alone as names.
- Four open syllables with a clear central stress that people read correctly.
- Arianna and Ariana are both far commoner, so the h will be dropped constantly.
- Four syllables is long, and it will be shortened by other people.
- The story it comes from includes being abandoned on an island, which people who know it will mention.
