The story of Andra
Andrew is the only apostle with a Greek name, which is worth pausing on: the others are Hebrew or Aramaic, and his is a perfectly ordinary Greek word, suggesting a family with one foot in the Greek-speaking world. The name went east and became Scotland's patron and Russia's and Greece's, and it produced feminine forms everywhere it went — Andrea, Andrina, Andra. Alexandra, separately, has been cut at every joint, and one of the pieces is this. The record cannot tell them apart, and both were in use in the same American decades.
Meaning

About 1 girl in 89,293 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 133,939 for Andra itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Marylee test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Andra's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Marylee climbed just as high around 1941, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Marylee's path sketches the road Andra is walking now.
Andra sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
