Our story of Amazi
Our story of Amazi is a story of two possible parents that will not be separated. Southern African names entered American use steadily from the 1990s, and amanzi — the Zulu and Xhosa word for water — is exactly the kind of concrete, ordinary noun families reach for. At the same time, the A- front had produced Amari, Amare and Amaya in the American workshop, and Amazi fits that shape precisely. It appears in the registers in the 2010s. Both routes are real; the record does not choose between them.

water
Usually read from the Nguni amanzi, 'water', which is grammatically plural in Zulu and Xhosa — a class of nouns that treats liquids that way. A second route treats Amazi as a modern American coinage on the A- front, in the pattern of Amari and Amare. Both are plausible.

The trade-off
- The water reading is concrete and the Nguni plural grammar is a genuinely good detail.
- Ama and Zi are two short forms with their own use.
- Three syllables of open vowels, which carries unusually well.
- The origin is genuinely split between a Zulu word and an American coinage.
- The Zulu word has an n this spelling has dropped.
- It is very new and will need spelling out.
