Aarron
Masculine
Aarron doubles a vowel and a consonant, and neither doubling changes anything. The first is borrowed from the transliteration of a Hebrew letter that English cannot say, and the second is a habit; between them they add two letters to a name that was already spelled the way it sounds.

The story of Aarron
There is a moment in the wilderness story when the priesthood is being disputed and the settlement is deliberately theatrical. Twelve staffs, one for each tribe with the leader's name on it, are left overnight in the tent of meeting; in the morning one of them has budded, blossomed and produced ripe almonds, and the argument is over. The staff is kept afterwards as evidence. It is one of the few places in the text where an office is settled by a sign rather than by an argument or a battle, and it says something about how contested the priesthood was that the story needed telling at all. The name belongs to the brother who does the talking, since Moses says he cannot, and who also makes the golden calf.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The meaning of Aaron is genuinely unknown. Hebrew has no convincing derivation for it, and one serious suggestion is that the name is Egyptian, like Moses and possibly Miriam, which would make it a survival from before the Hebrew tradition rather than a product of it. Readings such as mountain of strength are late inventions with nothing behind them.

AIR-un
Two syllables with the stress at the front. The doubled a is a transliteration mark standing for a Hebrew consonant, not a long vowel, and the doubled r keeps a vowel short that was already short; both are silent in effect.

Fashion outlook
Aarron sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The spoken name is completely established across English, Spanish, Italian and Arabic use.
- Ron and Ari are two short forms belonging to different generations.
- The name has been in continuous use for as long as records of names exist.
- The single-r spelling is overwhelmingly commoner and this will be read as a slip.
- Neither doubled letter changes a sound, so the spelling is hard to defend in speech.
- It will be confused with Erin, which is unrelated and sounds nearly identical in American speech.
