Zavien
Masculine · “the new house”
Zavien writes down what English speakers already say. The X at the front of Xavier is pronounced as a Z in English and has been for a long time, so replacing it changes the spelling to match the sound rather than changing the sound at all.

The story of Zavien
Basque etxe berri is one of the most common place-names in the Basque Country, and one of the houses was a castle in Navarre; a sixteenth-century missionary took the place as his name, was canonized, and made it a personal name across the Catholic world. English received Xavier and pronounced the X as a Z, which is what English usually does with an initial X. American naming then built a family of respellings and extensions — Xavion, Zavion, Xavien, Zavien — that put the sound and the letters back into agreement.
Meaning
the new house — a Basque place-name
Behind this is Xavier, from the Navarrese place-name Xabier, from Basque etxe berri, 'the new house'. That reading is settled. The Z is a phonetic respelling of an X that English says as a Z, and the -ien or -ian ending is an American addition with no meaning of its own. So the root is documented and the shape is recent.

Three syllables, stress on the first. Said exactly as Xavien, and nearly as Xavier — the Z spelling exists precisely because that is what English does with the X anyway.

The Satchel test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Zavien's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Satchel climbed just as high around 1998, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Satchel's path sketches the road Zavien is walking now.
Zavien sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The spelling and the sound agree, which the Xavier spelling does not.
- Zav is a natural short form and the Z gives the name a distinct shape on paper.
- A genuinely documented root behind it, even where the ending is modern.
- Xavier is far more common and this name will be corrected to it constantly.
- Zavien, Zavion, Xavien and Xavion are all in use and none is standard.
- The -ien ending carries no meaning, so a firm etymology for the whole overstates it.
