Zakkary
Masculine · “The Lord has remembered”
English almost never doubles a k. The letter is rare to begin with, and the language handles a short vowel before it by writing ck instead, which is why bookkeeper and trekked are the standard examples and there are barely any others. Zakkary breaks that quietly and completely.

The story of Zakkary
The priest in the gospel who carries this name is told he will have a son, asks how he can be sure at his age, and is struck mute until the birth. The scene at the naming is the good part. The neighbors assume the boy will be called after his father, the mother says no, he is to be John, they object that nobody in the family is called that, and they turn to the father, who cannot speak. He asks for a writing tablet, writes four words on it, and everybody is astonished. The detail that survives is the tablet: a man settles an argument about his son's name in writing because he has no voice, and the moment his hand leaves the wax he can talk again.
Meaning
The Lord has remembered
Hebrew zakhar, to remember, with the divine element, making a short sentence about God calling something to mind. It belongs to the large family of Hebrew sentence-names and says nothing about the child. The doubled k in this spelling is an English decision and carries nothing.

Pronouncing Zakkary
ZAK-uh-ree
Three syllables with the stress at the front. The standard spelling uses a ch for the k sound, which is a Greek convention; this one writes it as English would if English had not borrowed the Greek habit.

Fashion outlook
Zakkary sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- The spelling says what it means: no ch to explain and no ambiguity about the k sound.
- Zak and Zach are two short forms, one belonging to this spelling and one to the standard.
- The name is recognizable across Spanish, Italian and Arabic use.
- Zachary is overwhelmingly commoner and this will be read as a slip.
- The doubled k is almost unknown in English and looks deliberately unusual.
- It is closely dated to the last decades of the twentieth century.
