Our story of Yari
Ours, offered as ours. Caribbean Spanish naming has produced a whole cluster on Yar- — Yaritza, Yarelis, Yariel, Yari — and the meanings attached to them in name lists, usually said to be Taíno, are almost never supported. What is real is the cluster itself: a naming tradition that generates families of related names and lets them spread. Taíno words did survive into Spanish, hammock and hurricane and canoe among them, and these names are not among them.

Not established
No source is established. Japanese yari is a spear. Taíno attributions circulate for the Caribbean name without support; the Yar- family of Latin American naming, which produced Yaritza, Yarelis and Yariel, is the likelier source.

The Amarilis test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Yari's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Amarilis climbed just as high around 1985, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Amarilis's path sketches the road Yari is walking now.
Yari sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Four letters and two syllables, about as easy to write as a name gets.
- Every letter is sounded, so Spanish speakers read it correctly at first sight.
- It belongs clearly to a living Caribbean naming tradition.
- The Taíno meanings circulated for the Yar- names are not supported.
- Yari, Yaritza and Yarelis are all in use and none is dominant.
- It is used for both sexes in some families, so forms may guess wrong.
