Virgia
Feminine · “Of a maiden”
Virgia removes the stressed syllable of Virginia, which almost no clipping does. Shortenings normally keep the part of a name that carries the weight and throw away the rest; this one throws away the middle, keeps the front and the tail, and produces two syllables where there were four.

The story of Virgia
The Latin word did less work than the English one does. A virgo was a young unmarried woman, and the word turns up in Roman writing about legal status, marriage arrangements and age groups far more often than about anything else; the aqueduct called the Aqua Virgo was named after a girl who was said to have shown the surveyors a spring. The moral weight the English word carries came with Christian usage and centuries of sermons, and it is not in the original. That matters for the name, because a name meaning an unmarried young woman is an ordinary description of a stage of life, and a name meaning what the English word now means is something else entirely.
Meaning
Of a maiden
Latin virgo, whose meaning in Roman usage was an unmarried woman or a young woman rather than anything narrower; the modern sense is a later specialization. The Roman family name Verginius, from which Virginia comes, may not be related to the word at all, and the connection is traditional rather than demonstrated.

Two syllables with the stress at the front, which is where Virginia does not have it. The g is soft because of the i after it, following the ordinary English rule for a g in a borrowed word.

Fashion outlook
Virgia sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
