Veva
Feminine
Veva is a shape English orthography almost never produces. Two v's in a four-letter word is close to unique: the letter is rare in English to begin with, it never ends a native word, and it does not double the way other consonants do. The name is a household form of Genoveva, the Spanish version of Genevieve, and the Spanish spelling is what supplies the second v.

Where it comes from
From A Gaulish name of unsettled origin to Veva
The story of Veva
English spells the parent name with a v in the middle and a silent one at the end of the second syllable, which hides what the word actually contains. Spanish writes it out: Genoveva, with both v sounds visible, and Spanish-speaking families shorten it by keeping the stressed end rather than the front. That is a different instinct from the English one, which almost always keeps the beginning, and it is why the same name produces Genny in one language and this in another. The result is a name that looks invented and is a straightforward clipping, and one that carries an orthographic oddity as a side effect: English has almost no words shaped like this, because v is a Latin import that arrived late, never learned to double, and never learned to end a word without an e propping it up.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The parent name's origin is genuinely unsettled. It is probably Gaulish, the elements have been read several ways, and none of the readings has carried. That means the pet form has nothing to inherit. Where the parent is Vivian or Eva instead, which is possible in some families, the meaning would be different again, and there is no way to tell from four letters which household it came out of.
How the name formed
- A Gaulish name of unsettled origin
- Genevieve in French, Genoveva in Spanish
- The stressed end kept as a household form
- Veva on American certificates as a name in itself

Pronouncing Veva
VEE-vuh
Two syllables, stress on the first. Spanish says it the same way, since the letters do the same work in both languages. Some American families say VAY-vuh instead, which the spelling permits and which sounds like a different name.

Fashion outlook
Veva sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- It is short, unusual and completely unambiguous once the first vowel is established.
- It has a real parent name with a long European history rather than being an invention.
- The shape is genuinely distinctive on the page, which very few short names manage.
- The first vowel is unsettled between ee and ay, so the name needs saying aloud when introduced.
- It will be read as a typo for Eva or Neva by people meeting it in writing.
- There is no meaning to give, because the parent name has never had a settled one.
