Vangie
Feminine · “good news”
Vangie is the middle of a longer name, cut out and registered on its own, which is an American habit rather than a French or Spanish one. Its first letters also open a word that was invented, quite deliberately, to shame people who were destroying things.

The story of Vangie
Vandalism is a coined word with a date. During the French Revolution, as churches and monuments were being smashed, the Abbé Grégoire — a constitutional bishop and a revolutionary himself — wrote reports to the Convention denouncing the destruction, and used vandalisme to name it, after the Germanic people who had sacked Rome. The coinage worked: it entered French and then English within a few years and is now an ordinary legal term. Whether the Vandals deserved it is another matter. Their sack of Rome was, by the standards of such things, restrained, and the reputation owes more to later writers who needed a name for barbarism than to anything the Vandals did. A revolutionary invented the word to protect what a revolution was breaking.
Meaning
good news
The longer name is built on the Greek word for good news, the same word that gives gospel and evangelist. This short form takes the middle of it and carries the meaning only by association.
Pronouncing Vangie

Fashion outlook
Vangie sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Both halves detach as short forms and each is a standing name.
- Two syllables with front stress is the plainest shape English has.
- The longer name stands behind it for occasions that want one.
- Vangy, Vangee and Evangie will all be written for it.
- The g is often read hard by people meeting it in writing.
- It reads as a short form, so people will ask what it stands for.
