Our story of Tywan
French names circulated in American English long before anyone worried about spelling them the French way: Louisiana, the Gulf coast and the northern fur-trading towns all carried them, and speakers who had never seen the words written reproduced the sounds. Antoine came out as Antwan and Antwon, Etienne as Estene, Chantal as Shantel. Once a spelling like -wan is on the page in enough names it stops belonging to its source and becomes a piece of raw material, available to be attached to any opening syllable. That is how Tywan, Dewan and Jawan appear, none of them French, all of them carrying a fragment that used to be. It is the ordinary life cycle of a borrowed ending, and it happens faster in naming than anywhere else in the language.

The Michiel test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Tywan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Michiel climbed just as high around 1951, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Michiel's path sketches the road Tywan is walking now.
Tywan sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
