Our story of Tyrrell
In nineteen seventy-six a small British racing team ran a car with six wheels. The reasoning was aerodynamic: four small front wheels instead of two large ones reduced the frontal area and kept more rubber on the road under braking, and the designer had worked out that the gain outweighed the complexity. It looked absurd and it worked — the team took first and second at the Swedish Grand Prix with it, and the car scored points repeatedly across two seasons. It stopped because the tire manufacturer would not keep developing a bespoke small front tire for one customer, so the advantage evaporated. The rules were later written to require exactly four wheels. It remains the only six-wheeled car to have won a world championship race, and it is in every list of the sport's strange machines.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The surname is usually derived from an Old French nickname meaning stubborn, applied to a person who pulls like a horse refusing the rein. The derivation is plausible and not secure, and nothing records what any American family intended by the name.
