The story of Turquoise
Europeans called the blue-green stone the Turkish stone because it came to them through Turkey, though the finest was mined in Persia. In North America, Ancestral Pueblo people worked the turquoise of the Cerrillos Hills near Santa Fe for many centuries, and the stone traveled along trade routes as far as Chaco Canyon and Mexico. American families gave the gem's name to daughters as they gave Ruby and Jade.
