Trustin
Masculine · “trust”
Trustin puts an English virtue word into a name-shaped frame. Trust is Old Norse; the -in ending is the terminal that dominated American boys' naming from the 1990s. The result reads simultaneously as a word name and as a member of the Justin and Dustin family, which is almost certainly the point. Its peak is 2004.

Our story of Trustin
Justin and Dustin between them made the -ustin ending one of the most recognizable in American boys' naming: Justin was in the top ten through the 1980s and 1990s, Dustin in the top hundred. Once an ending is that established the ear treats it as a slot, and any consonant can fill the front. Trustin is that operation performed with a word rather than a syllable — which puts it in a small and interesting group. Word names for boys are rarer than for girls and tend to be nouns of standing: Legend, King, Justice, Royal. Trustin is not quite that, because it wears a name-ending and reads as a name first. It is a virtue word wearing a disguise, and both halves of the effect are working at once.
Meaningscholars disagree
trust; confidence, reliance
English trust comes from Old Norse traust, 'confidence, help, protection', related to German Trost, 'comfort', and to the root behind true and truth. That is a settled etymology for the word. Whether the name is built from it, or is instead a respelling of Dustin or Justin with a T, cannot be determined. Both readings are live and the spelling supports the first while the sound supports the second.

The Alfard test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Trustin's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Alfard climbed just as high around 1928, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Alfard's path sketches the road Trustin is walking now.
Trustin sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
