Timothy is a Greek name carried by a man with a Jewish mother, and the New Testament says so directly. His father was Greek, his mother and grandmother were Jewish, he was raised on the scriptures and given a name from the other side of the family — which is a fairly precise picture of what the eastern Mediterranean looked like in the first century.

The story of Timmie
The detail is in Acts and in the letters. Timothy's mother Eunice and grandmother Lois are both named, both described as believers, and both Jewish; his father is mentioned only as a Greek. Paul took him along as a traveling companion and wrote him two of the most personal letters in the New Testament. The name went into English use at the Reformation, when Protestant families began drawing names from the epistles rather than from saints, and Timmie is the familiar form as American records wrote it. It is given to girls as well as boys, because the same short form does duty for Tamara and Timothea.

Timmie sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
