Teron
Masculine · “a hunter”
Theron was a Sicilian tyrant who won the chariot race at Olympia and hired the best poet in Greece to write about it. Pindar's ode for him is one of the finest things in the language, and it was commissioned the way a modern oligarch commissions a portrait — with money, for the glory, and with the poet complaining about the fee.

The story of Teron
Theron ruled Acragas in Sicily at a moment when the western Greek cities were richer than anything in Greece itself, and the victory odes commissioned by their tyrants are most of what survives of Pindar. The poems are strange things — they take a chariot race as an occasion and spend most of their length on myth and moral instruction — and they were performed by a chorus, with music, in front of the man who paid for them. Two and a half thousand years later the races are forgotten and the odes are still being translated.

a hunter
The Greek name is generally read as hunter, from a word for a wild beast. The American Teron is more likely to be a spelling of the productive modern ending than a borrowing from Greek, and both are in the record. The h that the Greek name carries in English has been dropped here, which removes the only visible clue about which of the two a family meant.

- a Greek word for a wild beast gives a name meaning hunter

Teron sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
