Tedra
Feminine
Tedra is an American name with a clear build and an unclear parent. It ends the way a small family of twentieth-century names ends, beside Sandra, Kendra, Audra and Deidra, and it begins with the syllable English has used for generations as a short form of both Edward and Theodore.

Our story of Tedra
The -dra ending did real work in American naming for about two generations. Sandra was Alessandra shortened. Audra ran alongside Audrey. Kendra appeared without anybody being able to trace an ancestor for it at all. Once three or four names shared the ending it stopped needing a source: it had become a way of finishing a name, available to anyone. Tedra is finished that way. Whether it started as Theodora worn down from the front, or as Ted with an ending fitted to it, the record does not say, and the two roads arrive at the same door, since Ted has served both Theodore and Edward for a very long time. What can be said is that the name is built the way English builds names when it is not borrowing them.

Not established
Nothing has been documented. Theodora, the likeliest relative, means a gift of God in Greek, but no record connects Tedra to it, and a meaning borrowed on a resemblance is not a meaning.
Pronouncing Tedra
TED-ruh
Two syllables with the stress in front. The first vowel is usually the short e of Ted, though TEE-druh is heard as well.

Fashion outlook
Tedra sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- It is short, spelled as it sounds, and read correctly on sight by nearly everyone.
- The ending puts it in known company, so it is unfamiliar without being strange.
- Ted and Teddy are already in the language and available the moment a short form is wanted.
- Ted and Teddy read as men's short forms to most American ears, which is worth knowing before it happens rather than after.
- It has no documented origin, so the meaning question has no answer, and Theodora will be offered as one by people who are guessing.
- Teddra and Tedrah are both in the record, so the spelling will be checked back with you often.
