Where it comes from

Our story of Taveon

Latin taberna is a hut or a booth, the kind of temporary structure a trader or a soldier puts up. Its diminutive, tabernaculum, meant a tent, and it was the word the Latin Bible used for the portable sanctuary the Israelites carried through the desert, which is how English got tabernacle. Meanwhile the plain word went into French and became the place where you buy a drink. So a hut produced both a tavern and a tabernacle, and the two are the same Latin word separated only by which institution needed it. English is full of these forks, and the higher-register descendant almost always came through the church.

Fashion outlook

Taveon sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off

Practical strengths
  • Tav and Von are both available as short forms and both work on their own.
  • Three open syllables carry well and are easy to hear across a room.
  • It is distinctive on a page while being made of familiar sounds.
What to consider
  • Two stress patterns are in circulation and the spelling settles neither.
  • Tavion, Davion and Tavon are all in the record and will be confused with it.
  • No origin is documented, so the meaning question has nothing to answer with.
