The name is Hebrew in origin and Georgian in this form. Its American peak is 2005.

The story of Tamari
Georgia adopted Christianity in the fourth century and took biblical names with it, adapting them to Georgian grammar — which is why so many Georgian names end in -i. Queen Tamar, the first woman to rule Georgia in her own right, made the name a national one; the Georgian national epic, The Knight in the Panther's Skin, was written in her reign and dedicated to her. Tamari has been among the most common Georgian women's names ever since. American records show it in small numbers, and the modern American bearers may also reach the spelling from Tamara or from the Ta- prefix family, which is a separate route entirely.
Meaning
date palm
Hebrew tamar is the date palm, a tree of obvious value in the ancient Near East and a standing image of uprightness and fruitfulness — the Psalms compare the righteous to it. Three women named Tamar appear in the Hebrew Bible. Georgian took the name through Christianity and adds the -i ending that Georgian nouns carry in the nominative case, giving Tamari. The derivation is settled at every step.

The Kyria test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Tamari's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kyria climbed just as high around 1986, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kyria's path sketches the road Tamari is walking now.
Tamari sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
