The story of Stacy
Anastasia was a major name in the Greek and Russian churches, carried by a martyr commemorated on Christmas Day. Eustace arrived separately, through a legend about a Roman general and a stag with a cross in its antlers. English shortened both to Stacy, which was an ordinary man's name into the twentieth century before shifting decisively to girls in the 1960s — reaching the American top forty by 1971.

resurrection
Read as short for Anastasia, the meaning is the Greek anastasis, 'resurrection' — a name given in the early church to children born around Easter. Read as short for Eustace, it is the Greek eustachys, 'fruitful' or 'rich in grain'. Both derivations are well documented and the short form does not choose.

The Theresa test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Stacy's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Theresa climbed just as high around 1956, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Theresa's path sketches the road Stacy is walking now.
Stacy sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Two large and unrelated classical names stand behind it, which is rare depth for a short name.
- The plainest of the four spellings, and the one most likely to be assumed correctly.
- The sound is clean and carries well across a room.
- Four spellings were common at once, so the written form is still asked for.
- It has a genuine masculine record, so it does not signal sex on paper.
- It is closely dated to the 1960s and 1970s.
