Our story of Sharnell
In medieval Europe churchyards filled up, and bones from old graves were dug up and stacked in a charnel house, from Latin carnalis, 'of the flesh', to make room for the newly dead; some, like the bone chapels of Portugal and the Czech lands, still stand. Sharnell has nothing to do with that word; it came from Sharon and Nell, two of the warmest names of the mid-century. But its sound is close enough that some listeners will notice.
