The story of Sabine
Livy tells of Romulus inviting the Sabines to a festival and carrying off their unmarried women; the war that followed ended when the women themselves intervened between fathers and husbands. The two peoples then merged. Sabine is the French and German form and appears in American records in current use.

The Pati test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Sabine's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Pati climbed just as high around 1959, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Pati's path sketches the road Sabine is walking now.
Sabine sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- That the women ended the war by standing between the armies is a first-rate story.
- It is standard in French and German without change of spelling.
- The end stress gives it a strong rhythm against a front-stressed surname.
- The founding story it evokes is an abduction.
- French and German say it differently.
- The Sabines' own name has no recovered meaning.
