The story of Rumani
The pomegranate runs through Middle Eastern and South Asian imagery — its seeds are a standing figure for multiplicity, and rumani names the red they give. Separately, Rumi and Rumani mean 'of Rum', Byzantine territory. Both routes brought the name to America, where it appears in the registers in current use.

pomegranate; pomegranate-colored
From the Arabic rumman, 'pomegranate', with an adjectival ending — so of the pomegranate, or its color. A second route reads Rumani as 'Roman' or 'of Rum', Byzantine Anatolia. Both are documented in Arabic and neither is settled for the modern name.

The Guillermina test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rumani's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Guillermina climbed just as high around 1966, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Guillermina's path sketches the road Rumani is walking now.
Rumani is climbing fast right now. Steep climbs tend to come with steep descents — the quicker a name arrives, the more firmly it belongs to its moment.

The trade-off
- The pomegranate meaning is concrete and the fruit's imagery is genuinely rich.
- Rumi and Mani are two short forms, both with real use.
- Three syllables of open vowels, which carries unusually well.
- The origin is split between the fruit and 'of Rum'.
- Romani, the name of a people, is a near-homophone and unrelated.
- It is very new in American records.
