The story of Rosemarie
German and French formed compounds of Rose and Marie freely, and Rosemarie is the German spelling. English-speaking countries borrowed both it and the one-word Rosemary, which coincides with the herb. German and Austrian emigration brought Rosemarie to America, where it rose through the 1930s and peaked in the mid-1940s alongside Rosemary itself.

rose, and bitter or beloved
As a compound of Rose and Marie, it carries the flower and the Hebrew Miryam, whose meaning has never been settled. The herb rosemary is a separate word entirely — the Latin ros marinus, 'dew of the sea' — which English reshaped toward the two names by folk etymology.

The Elva test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rosemarie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Elva climbed just as high around 1901, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Elva's path sketches the road Rosemarie is walking now.
Rosemarie sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
