Ronita
Feminine
Ronita puts a Spanish diminutive ending on a man's English short form, which is a combination neither language would produce on its own. The syllable at the front is also the Spanish word for rum, and that word has one of the most genuinely unsolved etymologies in English.

Our story of Ronita
Nobody has established where the word rum comes from, which is remarkable for a drink so thoroughly documented. The earliest English references are from Barbados in the sixteen-fifties and they use a longer word, rumbullion, described in one account as a hot hellish liquor made from sugar cane. Where rumbullion came from is the actual question, and the honest answer is nobody knows: a Devon dialect word for an uproar is the usual suggestion and rests on thin evidence. Other proposals — a clipping of the Latin name for sugar cane, a Malay word, a Romani one — have all been floated and none has stuck. Spanish and Portuguese took the word from English rather than the other way round, which is why the drink of the Spanish Caribbean carries an English name whose own origin is lost.
Meaningnot established
Not established
The front is the familiar form of Ronald, whose Norse meaning is documented several removes back. The ending is a Spanish diminutive attached to an English base, which carries no meaning here. Nothing records what the family intended, and the compound has no source of its own.
Pronouncing Ronita
roh-NEE-tuh
Three syllables with the stress in the middle, which is where the Spanish ending puts it. Some families say RON-it-uh with front stress instead.

Fashion outlook
Ronita sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Nita detaches cleanly and is a complete name in Spanish.
- Middle stress on three syllables is the easiest rhythm English offers.
- It is rare without containing anything a reader has to be taught.
- Ronita, Ronnita and Renita are all recorded and the spelling will need giving.
- Stress placement is unsettled, so strangers will say it two ways.
- Neither half means anything in the compound, so the origin question has a short answer.
