The story of Rocio
The shrine at El Rocío stands in the marshland at the mouth of the Guadalquivir, and the whitsun pilgrimage to it — on horseback, on foot and in ox-drawn carts — is one of the great popular religious events of Spain. Andalusian families have named daughters Rocío for generations, and the name spread through Spain and to Latin America. It reaches American records with Spanish and Mexican families, usually without the accent that American systems will not carry.
Meaning

The Mariann test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rocio's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Mariann climbed just as high around 1957, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Mariann's path sketches the road Rocio is walking now.
Rocio sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A settled and lovely meaning tied to one specific place of devotion.
- Chío is a warm short form already in universal Spanish use.
- Six letters and an obvious Spanish pronunciation.
- The accent will be dropped by American systems, which moves the stress.
- English readers will try ROSS-ee-oh or ROH-kee-oh.
- The devotional weight is invisible outside Spanish-speaking Catholic families.
