The story of Rhema
Rhema appears throughout the Greek New Testament for a spoken word or saying. The rhema-logos distinction was developed in twentieth-century Pentecostal and charismatic teaching, and Rhema Bible Training College was founded in 1974. The name entered American use through that tradition and appears in the registers in current use.
Meaning
spoken word, utterance
From the Greek rhema, 'that which is said' or 'utterance', from a verb meaning to speak. Some Christian traditions distinguish rhema, the word spoken to a person now, from logos, the eternal Word — a distinction not made in classical Greek. The word itself is ordinary and undisputed.

The Trenace test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rhema's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Trenace climbed just as high around 1953, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Trenace's path sketches the road Rhema is walking now.

The trade-off
- The spoken-word meaning is concrete and the logos distinction is genuinely interesting.
- Two clean syllables with no real pronunciation risk.
- It is distinctive without being difficult to say.
- The rhema-logos distinction is a modern theological development, not classical Greek.
- The first vowel splits between two readings.
- The rh will need dictating.
