The story of Ramses
Ramses II reigned from about 1279 to 1213 BC, fought the Hittites at Kadesh, signed the earliest surviving peace treaty, and built Abu Simbel and the Ramesseum. His mummy traveled to Paris in 1976 on an Egyptian passport listing his occupation as king. The name is used in Spanish-speaking countries and appears in American records in current use.
Meaning
born of Ra
From the Egyptian Ra-mes-su — Ra, the sun god, and mes, 'born of' or 'child of'. The mes element also closes Thutmose and gives the Hebrew Moses its likely Egyptian origin. The reading is documented in Egyptian and undisputed.

The Calen test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Ramses's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Calen climbed just as high around 1987, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Calen's path sketches the road Ramses is walking now.
Ramses sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
