The story of Quantavious
The Roman numeral names began as literal birth-order labels and became hereditary family names, which is why a Sextus could be an only child and an Octavius rarely had seven older brothers. Quintus, Sextus, Septimus, Octavius, Nonus and Decimus all appear, and the practice extended to daughters, who were often distinguished only as the elder and the younger. Octavius passed into English through the emperor Augustus, born Gaius Octavius, and through the Victorian fashion for classical names. American coinage then took the tail of it: -tavious, cut from the middle of the word rather than at a joint, became a productive ending in names like Octavious, Montavious and Quantavious, none of which contains the number eight in any recoverable form.

Latin octavus, eighth
Quantavious is an American formation joining a Quan- opening to a -tavious element cut out of Octavius, the Roman family name from octavus, eighth. The cut does not fall on a morpheme boundary, which is common in coinage. The peak is 1997.
