Where it comes from
From pesach to Pascal
The story of Pascal
Pesach became Greek pascha and Latin pascha, and the Romance languages all took their word for Easter from it — Pâques, Pascua, Pasqua. Children born at the feast were named for it, and French produced Pascal and Pascale. A seventeenth-century French mathematician and writer of that surname made the name familiar far beyond France, and the unit of pressure carries it too.
Meaning
of Easter, of Passover
From Latin paschalis, of the Passover or Easter, from Greek pascha, which renders Hebrew pesach; every Romance language calls Easter by a version of the Jewish festival's name.
