The story of Ollie
Olive was an English name from the Middle Ages, and Shakespeare's Twelfth Night gave the world Olivia in 1602. Both were common in nineteenth-century America, and their affectionate short form Ollie was registered outright in real numbers for daughters — as it was for sons named Oliver. Feminine Ollie peaked around 1890 and faded with the whole -ie ending fashion.

olive tree
Through Olive or Olivia, from the Latin oliva, 'olive'. The name Olivia may instead be a Shakespearean coinage on a Germanic root, in which case the olive is a later association — but Olive itself is unambiguously the tree, and the olive branch as a token of peace goes back to Greek and Roman practice.
