The story of Nazario
Nazareth was a small village and its name is probably from netzer, a shoot or branch — the word Isaiah uses in the prophecy about a branch from the stump of Jesse. Matthew's gospel connects the two explicitly. Nazarius was an early Christian name and Italian and Spanish give Nazario. It appears in American records with Italian and Puerto Rican families.
Meaning
of Nazareth
From Latin Nazarius, of Nazareth; the town's name is generally connected to Hebrew netzer, a branch or shoot, which Isaiah uses of a coming ruler. Matthew appears to play on the connection.

The Thayer test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Nazario's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Thayer climbed just as high around 1918, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Thayer's path sketches the road Nazario is walking now.
Nazario sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A settled meaning with a genuinely interesting scriptural wordplay behind it.
- Rio and Naz are both usable short forms in current use.
- Every letter is said, so Spanish and Italian speakers read it at once.
- Seven letters and four syllables is a great deal for early handwriting.
- It reads as of an older generation to Spanish and Italian speakers.
- The Naz clip is close to an unfortunate abbreviation.
