The story of Natalee
Natalia was a Latin name used in the early church for a child born at Christmas, and it went east as much as west: it became a standard Russian name, Nataliya, and it is through Russian that most of the English-speaking world eventually met it. French shaped it into Nathalie, and English took Natalie from the French. Natalee is the American respelling, made by the same instinct that gave Ashlee, Kaylee and Emilee their endings — the -ie replaced with a doubled e, a change that alters the look and not the sound.
Meaning
birth day — Christmas
Latin natalis, 'of birth', from nasci, 'to be born'. Dies natalis Domini was the church's phrase for Christmas, and the name Natalia was given to girls born on it. The connection to Christmas is not decorative; it is the entire origin.

The Qiana test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Natalee's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Qiana climbed just as high around 1978, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Qiana's path sketches the road Natalee is walking now.
