The story of Nadeen
Vera, Nadezhda and Lyubov are named in the Orthodox calendar as three sisters martyred with their mother Sophia, whose name is wisdom, and the four names have been used in Russia ever since as ordinary given names that still mean exactly what they say. French borrowed the middle one as Nadine in the nineteenth century, when Russian names were fashionable in Paris, and English-speaking countries took it from French. The -een spelling has its own history and it is not French at all: it comes from the Irish diminutive ending -in, which English wrote as -een in Kathleen, Maureen, Colleen and Doreen. Once the spelling existed it was applied to any name that ended in that sound.
Meaning
hope
Through French Nadine from Russian Nadya, the pet form of Nadezhda, which is the ordinary Russian word for hope. The name is the noun itself. Nadeen is the American spelling of the French form, and the -een ending is an English convention rather than a French one.

The Kimie test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Nadeen's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kimie climbed just as high around 1922, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kimie's path sketches the road Nadeen is walking now.
Nadeen sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
