The story of Mirielle
Mistral wrote Mirèio in Provençal, a language he was deliberately trying to revive, and it made him famous — he shared the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1904 and used the money to found a museum of Provençal life. The heroine's name was his invention. French made it Mireille, and Mirielle is a modern respelling appearing in American records recently.

The Tinia test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Mirielle's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Tinia climbed just as high around 1962, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Tinia's path sketches the road Mirielle is walking now.
Mirielle sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A documented literary origin, which very few names have so precisely.
- Mira and Elle are both usable short forms in current use.
- A Nobel Prize stands behind the poem that made it.
- Mireille is the standard French spelling and this is a respelling of it.
- Americans will not read the French pronunciation without being taught.
- The meaning is genuinely unsettled, being an invention.
