Our story of Jayce
Ours, offered as ours. Jason was raised by Chiron the centaur, who in the tradition is the teacher of physicians — Asclepius is his pupil too — so the healing in his name may point at that upbringing rather than at anything he does. He goes on to lead a raiding expedition and to treat Medea abominably. Whether the name was chosen for the tutor or is simply older than the story is unrecoverable, and Jayce is four steps from it.

healer
Jason descends from Greek iasthai, to heal; the same root gives Greek its modern word for a doctor. Whether Jace and Jayce clip Jason or come from initials is not documented, and both are offered.

The SSA counts spellings, not names. Jayce went to 31 girls in 2025, but Jaycee and Jaicee are the same name said out loud. Together the 3 spellings went to 247, which makes it the 715th most-given girls’ name of the year — 3,745 places above the chart.
About 1 girl in 6,507 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 51,847 for Jayce itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The trade-off

- Five letters and one syllable, quick to write.
