Our story of Milas
Our story of Milas begins far from America, at Mylasa, a city of ancient Caria inland from the Aegean coast of what is now Turkey. Caria's rulers governed from Mylasa before moving their seat to Halicarnassus, where one of them, Mausolus, was buried in the tomb that gave English the word mausoleum. The town is still there and is called Milas today. The American boy's name has no tie to it, but it shares the sound of Miles and the ending of Silas, and it can carry the old city along as a story worth telling.

Fashion outlook
Milas sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Sits between two familiar names, Miles and Silas, so it sounds known on first hearing.
- Short and simply spelled.
- Shares its spelling with a real town that has an ancient history, a pleasant thing to be able to point to.
- People will hear Miles or Myles and write that, so the spelling will need saying.
- The i can be read long or short, MY-lus or MIL-us, so the intended sound is worth giving with the name.
