Mekenzie
Feminine · “son of Coinneach”
Mekenzie is Mackenzie with its first syllable rewritten, and the rewriting removes the only part of the name that ever meant anything. Mac is a word — it is the Gaelic for son, and everything after it is whose son. Me is not a word in any of the languages involved. The name still sounds identical, which is exactly why the spelling exists.

The story of Mekenzie
The Mackenzie who put the name on maps walked to two oceans. Alexander Mackenzie, a fur trader out of the North West Company, followed the great river of the Canadian north-west to its mouth in 1789 hoping it would reach the Pacific and finding the Arctic instead; he called it the River of Disappointment, and it carries his name now. Four years later he crossed the continent overland to the Pacific coast, wrote the date and his name on a rock in grease and vermilion, and became the first European to make that crossing north of Mexico — twelve years before Lewis and Clark set out on the same errand with a great deal more equipment.
Meaning
son of Coinneach
Every Scottish surname beginning with Mac is a two-part statement: the word for son, and the name of a particular man. The information sits entirely in that first syllable — without it the rest is a fragment. Respelling it as Me keeps the sound and drops the sense, which is a fair description of what happens to a great many surnames once they become first names. The name is no longer telling you whose child anybody is. It is a shape that people like, and the shape survives the meaning by a long way.

Fashion outlook
Mekenzie sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.
